It is November. And what does that mean around here?

november

For us, as a family, we devote a few minutes each day to talking about the many things that we are thankful for in our lives. I strongly believe that teaching your children to find the extraordinary in the every day things fosters a spirit of appreciation and blessing that is not often seen anymore in our culture.

I loved the responses from my children, because they have such big hearts and see the amazing sides of simple things. Not to mention, seeing life through the eyes of a five year old brings back all that amazing wonder and delight to my heart I had as a kid. Today I am going to share with you a few thoughts from one of my Littles as she thought hard about what she was thankful for today..

Me: So, Sophia….what are some things you are thankful for in your life?

Sophia: What does it mean to be thankful? What is that? (weird look and a tilted head as she asks)

Me: Sophia, remember how you always say thank you when someone gives you something, or helps you, or does something nice for you? That feeling you have in your heart that makes you happy and GLAD that they did that? That is thankfulness. So what things make you feel that way that you can say “I am thankful for this?”

Sophia: OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Ok! I have lots, Mamma.

(cue the Mommy heart about to melt)

I am thankful for… lots and lots thankful for my dog and my cat and my giraffe and my bunny.

I am thankful for my heart pillow that looks just like Clara’s but is purple.

I am thankful for ABCMouse.com and how it is very VERY VERY cool that I can do school at home when _________has to go away from her home and do school somewhere else.

I am thankful for donuts. Oh and oranges, apples and bananas. Because they are almost as good.

Me: Sophia, So do you have anything else that you are thankful for? That you want to share?

Sophia: Nope. Wait. Yes. Lots. But you dont have enough room. I could talk for HOURS…..

Me: (hugs my big-hearted Little)

Sophia: Wait Mamma, can I choose one more thing?

Me: Sure honey, what?

Sophia: I choose this. (giant hug around my neck)

Yeah, I do have the most totally awesome kids on this green earth. So today, I choose them as my thankfulness choice. For a woman whose arms were once empty, and who went through 13 losses of babies, holding all THREE of my girls in my arms is a daily reminder of how incredibly blessed I am….and for that I am eternally grateful to the Lord who chose to bless me. 😀

I would like to extend this same invitation to you. Who wants to join us this month as we share what we are thankful for? Just comment with your thought of the day either here on posts, or over on our FB Page.

May this November find you focusing not on the things that could totally wreck your mind and your heart, but instead of the many little beautiful threads of gold in your life’s tapestry that make it worth living.

Many Blessings to you and yours.
